During the event, the children will enjoy dinner, an opportunity to make holiday-themed crafts and a visit from Royals mascot Sluggerrr. All of the children will receive a gift from Santa Claus purchased by Royals associates and leave with a stocking full of goodies.
The holiday party is a private event for the select children from the four charitable organizations. Media members wishing to cover the event should enter Kauffman Stadium at Home Plate Gate C.
In addition, the Royals will once again support the Topeka (Kan.) Police Department’s Cops and Kids event on Saturday, December 10. Royals Coat Drive Set For September 16-17
Annual Drive Includes Coat Collection & Grab Bag Fundraiser to Benefit Joplin Residents in Need
KANSAS CITY, MO (September 13, 2011) – Together with Alex and Jamie Gordon, the Kansas City Royals will host the eighth annual Back to School Drive to benefit Joplin residents in need as they continue to rebuild from the devastating tornado that ripped through the city on May 22. The drive will take place this Friday, September 16 and Saturday, September 17 at Kauffman Stadium.

Royals Wives will collect new and gently-used coats on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 5-7 p.m. outside of the Diamond Club, located across from the Majestic Team Store on the plaza level. Fans are encouraged to donate coats of all sizes – adults, boys, girls, toddlers and infants – as well as winter accessories such as gloves, hats and scarves.
In addition, the wives will sell mystery bags that include a baseball autographed by a Royals player for a $20 donation and player autograph cards for a $10 donation. For details, visit www.royals.com/community.
All items collected and funds raised will benefit Jackets for Joplin, which is being administered by Bright Futures. The grass-roots, community-based program works to create partnerships and utilize community resources to help children while strengthening families and the entire Joplincommunity.
In addition to supporting the Coat Drive, Royals fans can continue to support the Joplin relief effort by texting “REDCROSS” to 90999 to donate $10 to American Red Cross Disaster Relief. Fans are encouraged to visit www.royals.com/joplin for more details on the club’s disaster relief efforts and updated information on how they can help.
