Arizona Fall League Recap

Arizona Fall League

SPRINGDALE, Ark. – The Peoria Javalinas and the Arizona Fall League commenced action this week with the Javalinas, managed by Northwest Arkansas Naturals skipper, Vance Wilson, splitting the opening two contest on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Naturals third baseman Hunter Dozier collected a go-ahead two-run double in Tuesday’s contest and drove in another run in Wednesday’s game.

Fresh off winning the 2014 Bowman Hitting Challenge on Saturday, Oct. 4, Dozier came to the plate in the eighth inning in the Opening Day match-up against the Surprise Saguaros with the Javalinas trailing by a run. The Denton, Texas native smoked a two-out, two-run down the rightfield line to plate the go-ahead runs en route to the 5-4 win. The game was billed as a pitcher’s duel with the Kansas City Royals No. 2 prospect and former Northwest Arkansas Naturals right-hander Kyle Zimmer squaring off against former Seattle Mariners’ top prospect RHP Taijuan Walker. Zimmer worked 3.2 innings allowing three runs on three hits in his Fall League debut.

Outfielder and soon-to-be Natural Bubba Starling finished 1-for-4 with a pair of runs scored in the Peoria victory on Tuesday at Surprise Stadium in Surprise, Ariz.

Future Northwest Arkansas Naturals infielder and the Royals No. 1 prospect Raul Mondesi led the Javalinas offense in Wednesday’s loss to Surprise tallying a pair of hits in four trips to the plate including a double, a run scored and a stolen bag. RHP Ali Williams worked the seventh frame on Wednesday and tossed a perfect inning while striking out the final batter faced in his Arizona Fall League debut. LHP Sam Selman allowed a run on a pair of hits in his single inning of work in Wednesday’s loss.

Former Naturals right-handed pitcher Jason Adam made his Fall League debut for the Salt River Rafters on Tuesday pitching the fifth inning in the 7-4 loss to Scottsdale. The Overland Park, Kan. native allowed three runs on three hits while walking a batter in the outing.

Wilson and the Javalinas will play Thursday and Friday at home against Scottsdale and Salt River and will head to Mesa, Ariz. to take on the Mesa Solar Sox on Saturday.

The Peoria Javalinas’ roster consists of prospects from the parent clubs of the Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, Cleveland Indians, Tampa Bay Rays and the Kansas City Royals.
